Leicester fan who bet on league win at 5000/1 cashes out

UPDATE: APRIL 12, 2016. This was originally published on March the 5th, gotta wonder how John feels having missed out on £61,000!

Remember when a lucky Leicester City fan won £5,000 off a £5 punt after the Foxes topped the league table at Christmas?

Well, another Leicester fan has just gone one better.

John Pryke, 59, whacked £20 on his side to win the Premier League at the start of the season at 5000/1. Pryke was one of just 47 people worldwide to back Leicester with Ladbrokes, and is the fourth to cash out. Most of those bets would likely have been £1 or £2 novelty bets from fans to boot, after Nigel Pearson’s sides late run of seven wins in nine saved the Foxes from relegation.

At 5000/1, every stake counts, and Pryke has decided to cash out his winnings with 10 games to go; pocketing a cool £29,000 for his efforts.

Pryke said “it’s been a crazy season, I’d be silly not to take my money and run.”Teams have worked out how to play against us and the smaller teams will just start parking the bus.”

John can now cheer on Riyad Mahrez and co, without worrying about the money.

Whilst its a genuine success story in itself, Pryke also put £10 on the Foxes to finish in the top four at 400/1 – a bet he intends on honouring until the end – meaning his total earnings are almost certain to amount to £33,000 (A$63,000).

With Leicester three points clear at the top, he can now relax in his pile of cash and enjoy the run-in for what it is. Well played, John!
